Evaluating Heart Function Under Stress

Treadmill Testing (TMT), also known as cardiac stress test, monitors your heart's activity during exercise to detect coronary artery disease. The test records ECG and blood pressure while you walk on a treadmill at increasing speeds and inclines.

This test is essential for diagnosing chest pain, evaluating shortness of breath, assessing cardiac fitness, and determining safe exercise levels. It helps detect blockages in coronary arteries that may not show symptoms at rest but become apparent during physical exertion.

Our cardiologist-supervised TMT facility ensures safety with full resuscitation equipment available. The test typically takes 15-30 minutes and provides valuable information about your heart's health and exercise capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about treadmill testing.

Yes, treadmill testing is safe when performed under medical supervision. A cardiologist or trained physician is present throughout the test, and emergency resuscitation equipment is readily available. The test is stopped immediately if any concerning symptoms develop.

The complete treadmill test takes 15-30 minutes including preparation, actual exercise (usually 6-12 minutes), and recovery monitoring. ECG electrodes are attached before starting, and you're monitored for a few minutes after completing the exercise.

Wear comfortable shoes and loose clothing. Avoid heavy meals 2-3 hours before the test. Don't smoke or consume caffeine for 3 hours before. Continue your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise. Bring a list of your medications.

Yes, you can stop the test at any time if you feel too tired, short of breath, dizzy, or experience chest discomfort. The doctor will also stop the test if they observe any concerning changes on the ECG or blood pressure.

The test is designed to detect heart problems, so some patients may experience chest discomfort during exercise. If chest pain occurs, inform the doctor immediately and the test will be stopped. This information helps in diagnosis.

TMT is not recommended for patients with recent heart attack (within 2 days), severe heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe aortic stenosis, or acute infections. Your doctor will assess if TMT is safe for you.
